Xcel Energy Inc.

The US Equal Employment Opportunity Commission filed a lawsuit on behalf of Michelle Jaramillo against the energy company alleging gender discrimination. The lawsuit claimed Xcel denied Jaramillo a promotion to senior metrologist at the metrology lab in Henderson, CO. Even though Jaramillo was the only woman in the lab, she claims she was not promoted based solely on her gender. Xcel has agreed to pay $30,000 in damages, will comply with all employment laws, and will post annual reminders regarding its commitment to equal opportunity in the workplace.
