LAWSUITS NEWS & LEGAL INFORMATION
Seattle City Light
Seattle, WA: (Feb-27-07) Following a four week civil trial, a Seattle judge ruled in favor of two Seattle City Light employees who filed suit against the company accusing it of racial discrimination. The suit alleged that both, Mattie Bailey and Phi Trinh had been passed over for promotions and pay increases because of their race. Trinh, a Vietnamese American employed as a power generation supervisor at City Light's Skagit River dams, was awarded $947,290 and Bailey, a communications supervisor for the utility who is black, was awarded $503,185. The lawsuit also included cable splicer Juan Rodriguez. Rodriguez withdrew from the suit after reaching a $125,000 settlement with City Light. The employees had spent years trying to secure better positions but their requests had been put off indefinitely resulting in the lawsuit.
