Chula Vista, CA
Chula Vista, CA: (Mar-20-07) In a settlement reached between the city of Chula Vista and Laurie Madigan, Chula Vista's assistant city manager, the city will pay Madigan $155,000 and lifetime retirement benefits as part of her severance package. Although she no longer works for the city, Madigan, 56, will remain on the payroll for the next 10 months. During that time she will collect her full pay, based on an annual salary of $189,212, which will also ensure her being vested in the California Public Employees' Retirement System. Following her resignation, the city announced that it was because she was suffering from job-related stress because the city was investigating her potential conflict of interest. Madigan wrote a letter to the editor clarifying that her doctor prescribed a leave to prevent a stress-related flare-up of her rheumatoid arthritis.
