LAWSUITS NEWS & LEGAL INFORMATION
Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District
Sacramento, CA: (Apr-07-07) An undisclosed female former employee brought a lawsuit against the Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District, accusing more than a dozen firefighters, including five supervisors, of sexual harassment. The lawsuit alleged she was sexually assaulted by two of them. The men accused of sexual assault denied claims and allegations and no criminal investigation ever took place. However, several of the firefighters accused of sexual harassment and misconduct admitted to an internal investigator that they had consensual sex with the woman while on duty. District documents indicated that the female employee suffered from bipolar disorder and had received psychiatric treatment. She suffered a drug overdose at district headquarters in December 2003 while attempting suicide. In a settlement reached, the Fire District paid her $550,000, ending the sexual harassment and misconduct lawsuit. Seven defendants faced discipline, including leave without pay. None were fired.
