Red Robin Restaurant
Belleview, WA: (Apr-07-07) Human and Civil rights cases that stem from abuse of the First Amendment are seeing a steady increase as more religious practices run counter to laws and policies. The US Equal Employment Opportunity Commission filed a lawsuit against Red Robin Restaurant on behalf of server Ameni Rangel, who practices the ancient Egyptian Kemetic religion. Rangel has a small religious inscription tattooed on his wrist, but since business policy forbid tattoos, restaurant authorities' asked him to cover it. Rangel refused to comply, alleging doing so would be a sin. Rangel said that the restaurant was aware of the tattoos when it hired him and that it was only when it relocated and a new manager was hired that the tattoos became an issue. In a settlement reached, Red Robin Restaurant agreed to pay Rangel $150,000 ending the discrimination lawsuit.
