Denver Newspaper Agency
Denver, CO: (Apr-30-07) The US Equal Employment Opportunity Commission filed a discrimination suit against the Denver Newspaper Agency on behalf of Karen Stenvall, who was fired when she was six months pregnant. Stenvall was an experienced advertising manager who was fired in May 2001. She had worked for the Post for three years before announcing she was pregnant in January 2001. In the year before she was fired, Stenvall earned bonuses of more than $24,000 and a raise of more than $9,000, apart from raving reviews about her professionalism, including one in which a supervisor called her a 'superstar'. The same person fired Stenvall based on criticisms of her management style. The EEOC filed the lawsuit in September 2004 after first trying to reach a pre-litigation settlement with the Denver Newspaper Agency. In a settlement reached, the Denver Newspaper Agency agreed to pay $75,000 to settle discrimination charges against it.
