Collier County, FL
Collier County, FL: (May-23-07) Stan Litsinger, former Collier County comprehensive planning manager, filed suit against the county and Commissioner Fred Coyle, alleging that he was demoted in 2005 and that the demotion violated county policy and defamed him. Litsinger became a project manager in the engineering department of the public utilities division. His annual salary dropped from $93,000 to $65,000 with the demotion. The county stated that Litsinger was demoted by County Manager Jim Mudd after Litsinger displeased Mudd and Coyle with his performance at a June 8, 2005, workshop, where Mudd and Coyle claimed Litsinger was scathing in his criticism of a statewide growth management bill privately, but was not as critical when he spoke to multiple state legislators at the legislative workshop.
In a settlement reached, Collier County commissioners agreed to pay Litsinger $290,000 to drop his lawsuit against the county and Coyle. As part of the settlement, Litsinger resigned his job with the county. Under the settlement, neither Collier County nor Coyle admitted any wrongdoing. [NAPLES NEWS: EMPLOYEE DEMOTION]
