LAWSUITS NEWS & LEGAL INFORMATION
Daily Mail, Associated Newspapers
Seattle, WA: (May-27-07) Keira Knightley filed charges against the Daily Mail, a British tabloid, over a story that suggested she was to blame for the death of an anorexic teenager. The libel claim also accused the tabloid of falsely suggesting that the actress had an eating disorder. The suit stemmed from a January 2007 article that the Daily Mail published, which carried a photo of Knightley in a bikini with the headline: "If pictures like this one of Keira carried a health warning, my darling daughter might have lived."
In a settlement reached, the publishers of the Daily Mail, Associated Newspapers, agreed to pay Knightley $6,000 to resolve the libel claim. Kate Wilson, representing the publisher of the Daily Mail, confirmed that Knightley does not have an eating disorder, and has not misled the public. [SEATTLE POST INTELLIGENCER: KEIRA KNIGHTLEY]
