Clearwater, FL: (May-29-07) Robert Scott, a Clearwater building inspector, filed suit against the city after he injured his back in an on-the-job accident on Aug. 27, 2003. The suit claimed that despite subsequent surgery, he continues to have permanent physical restrictions that preclude his returning to work as a building inspector and is still receiving treatment for his injuries. Scott's employment was terminated on Feb. 4, 2004, and he withdrew his share of the city's pension fund. In a settlement reached, following the recommendation of its outside counsel, the City Council agreed to pay Scott $150,000 in full settlement of his claim against the city. The settlement will be paid from the city's Central Insurance Fund.
