LAWSUITS NEWS & LEGAL INFORMATION
Boulder County, CO
Boulder County, CO: (Jun-02-07) Beverly Anderson, who had been an emergency management employee since 1986, filed suit against Boulder County and the city of Boulder in June 2006, claiming she had been denied a chance in her bid to become the Office of Emergency Management (OEM) director because she was discriminated on the basis of her age and gender. Anderson had sought the OEM director's job when her former boss, Larry Stern, announced he would step down in 2004. Anderson's lawsuit sought compensation for mental anguish, emotional distress, and lost wages stemming from her lack of promotion. She left her county job Aug. 18, 2006. Her annual pay at the time was $48,522.
In a settlement reached, the agency, which coordinates emergency responses for both the city of Boulder and Boulder County during large-scale catastrophes such as wildfires or chemical spills, agreed to pay Anderson $80,000 as compensation. [LONGMONT FYI: EMPLOYEE DISCRIMIANTION]
