Zale Corp.
New York, NY: (Jun-11-07) A wage and hour lawsuit was filed against Zale Corp. in the Sacramento County Superior Court by certain current and former employees of Zale Piercing Pagoda chain of stores. The suit claimed that the store underpaid its employees and did not equally compensate for overtime.
In a settlement reached, Zale Corp. agreed to pay $3.8 million to settle the employee lawsuit. The settlement requires Zale to make payments on a claims made basis, subject to a minimum payout. In a report filed with the US Securities and Exchange Commission, the jewelry retailer stated that it recorded an additional $1.5 million in selling, general and administrative expenses during the fiscal third quarter as a result of the settlement, which is subject to court approval.
