Canadian Pacific Rail
Washington, DC: (Jun-14-07) 3,200 members of the Teamsters Canada Rail Conference - Maintenance of Way Employees Division (TCRC-MWE) brought charges against Canadian Pacific Rail (CP Rail) over a dispute regarding wage hikes. The matter reached a tentative settlement, ending a strike called by the Teamsters on May 15, 2007. Teamsters had originally struck the nationwide rail system due to the company's refusal to bargain over wages, benefits, and workplace rules. On May 29, 2007 private police officers employed by CP Rail accosted strikers outside of a Vancouver rail yard, spurring a strong sign of support from Teamster President Jim Hoffa.
In the settlement reached, CP Rail agreed to a 3% wage increase in 2007, 4% in 2008, and 3% in 2009. The company also agreed to an increase to the life insurance payment to $150,000. There is also a lump sum 1% per year enhancement and increases to personal expenses averaging over 17%, ending the wage dispute. [PR NEWS WIRE: CP RAIL WAGES]
