Nicholas Mavros
Oxford, NY: (Jun-14-07) The US Equal Employment Opportunity Commission filed a federal sexual harassment lawsuit against Nicholas Mavros, owner of the Crazy Horse Steak House and Saloon, on behalf of Elisha-Kay Markle, a bartender at the Route 30 business. Markle filed a sexual harassment complaint against Crazy Horse in 2006, alleging she had been harassed since December 2004. The suit alleged Mavros made comments about female employees' breasts, asked what color underwear they were wearing, asked them to come with him to a motel to have sex, unbuttoned Markle's pants, touched employees against their wishes, and stuck his hand down the pants of a female employee. According to the lawsuit, Markle and at least one other employee complained to the restaurant's manager on numerous occasions, but the behavior continued.
In a settlement reached, Nicholas Mavros agreed to pay $40,750 to three female employees. In addition, Crazy Horse agreed to pay its own expenses, costs and attorney fees as well as provide the commission with a report on the restaurant's compliance. The settlement called for Crazy Horse not to harass any employee on the basis of sex, or retaliate against Markle, Jessica Fisher, or Merry Miller for complaining about being harassed.
