Dallas, TX
Dallas, TX: (Jun-20-07) Several male and female employees of the city's fire department filed complaints against Assistant Fire Chief Roland Gamez, accusing him of sexual harassment, claiming that he inappropriate touched employees. Following an internal investigation, the veteran of 27 years was fired. Gamez filed suit against the city, alleging that officials failed to follow its policies and procedures and that he was defamed and was now un-hireable as a public servant. The city was unable to prove its claims against Gamez or supply evidence, counter to Gamez's claims.
In a settlement reached, the city agreed to pay former Assistant Fire Chief Gamez $1.5 million as compensation. Further, as part of the agreement, the city agreed to reinstate him with the same pay and benefits he received before he was fired. [WFAA: CHIEF DEFAMATION]
