Gautier, MS
Gautier, MS: (Jun-23-07) Don Pickard, former City Manager, filed suit against the city of Gautier, current Councilman Hurley Ray Guillotte, former Mayor Ken Taylor, former Councilmen Johnny Jones and Jim Savage, and former city attorney Bob Ramsay, asking for $2.4 million in 2004. His suit alleged that Pickard had been wrongly terminated and his position given to current city manager, Christy Wheeler.
In a settlement reached, the city council agreed to pay Pickard $30,000 to drop all claims against the city. Some in Gautier blame the recent turmoil on the city manager form of government. What the city manager system is supposed to do is remove the politics from city government. The city manager runs the day-to-day operation and reports to the city council. The fact that council members can't direct city employees makes it a tough spot for those running for election. [GULF LIVE: CITY MANAGER]
