Pittsburgh Public Schools
Pittsburgh, PA: (Jun-29-07) Andrew King, a former Pittsburgh Public Schools administrator filed suit against the Pittsburgh Public School District, alleging that he was wrongfully passed over for superintendent. King, who has a prior arrest for lewdness, served as interim chief in 2005 and applied for the job on a permanent basis. The position went instead to Mark Roosevelt, a former Massachusetts state legislator who completed a course for professionals from other fields to become school administrators. King's suit claimed that he was more qualified. King, who is black, also alleged discrimination.
In a settlement reached, the school district agreed to pay King $390,000. The settlement ends King's lawsuit and related complaints he filed with the state Human Relations Commission and the US Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. As part of the deal, King will also retire a year early. [NEPA NEWS: ADMINISTRATOR DISCRIMINATION]
