Chicago, IL: (Jul-30-07) Several prosecutors brought charges against the city, alleging that they receive the same salary as public defenders. Protesting the unfairness, prosecutors brought their families to a weekend rally. In a recent settlement, Cook County Board President Todd Stroger and State's Attorney Dick Devine announced that they have agreed to pay prosecutors the same salary they pay public defenders. The settlement will see the salaries of public defenders rise by about $5,000 a year, up to about $10,000 a year for their top bosses. Sources state that the settlement agreement would mean an $8.7 million payout annually. The County Board's expected to approve paying for the raise with revenue from a lawsuit settlement.
