Unlimited Restoration, Inc.
Washington, DC: (Aug-13-07) CASA of Maryland brought an employment lawsuit against Unlimited Restoration, Inc. (URI), a labor contracting company, alleging that it underpaid nearly 50 day laborers from Montgomery and Prince George counties who helped in the Gulf Coast cleanup after Hurricane Katrina. CASA spokespersons claimed that the laborers had been recruited in and around the two counties in September 2005 by MFC General Contractors, Inc., a URI subcontractor, to clean up Mississippi casinos affected by Katrina. After spending nearly two months in the hurricane ravaged region, the workers returned home without being fully compensated financially. CASA filed a case on behalf of the workers' in December 2005.
In a settlement reached, a federal judge approved a $100,000 settlement agreement between Unlimited Restoration, Inc., the Pennsylvania-based company that employed the laborers, and the laborers themselves. The settlement stipulates that the 46 workers be paid their regular and overtime wages in full minus administration costs. [SEATTLE EXAMINER: LABORERS PAY]
