Lansing Community College
Lansing, MI: (Aug-15-07) The former general counsel of Lansing Community College, Tim Zeller, brought a lawsuit against the college, alleging that he was wrongfully fired after he accused Judith Cardenas, its president, of misspending thousands of dollars. The Michigan college admitted no wrongdoing in the settlement, and Cardenas, said in a written statement that the college had acted appropriately in Zeller. Though the Michigan auditor general's office has not issued a ruling on the alleged misspending, Cardenas was cleared of the charges on the behest of the college's Board of Trustees.
In a settlement reached, the college agreed to payout of $175,000 to resolve the allegations. Sources stated that the college has reached several settlements with former employees in the last year or so, including $36,000 to a former chief information officer and $388,000 to a former president.
