Clarksville, TN
Clarksville, TN: (Sep-05-07) Clarksville Police Detectives Tony Blakely and Kenneth Austion brought four lawsuits against the police department on various counts, including racial discrimination and a hostile work environment. Following a vote by the city Finance and Administration Committee, both Blakely and Austion agreed to resign from the Clarksville Police Department.
In a settlement reached, the city agreed to pay them a total of $1.4 million. As part of the negotiated settlement, which was unanimously approved, Blakely will be awarded $650,000 and Austion $750,000. Of Blakely's settlement, $350,000 will be covered by city insurance, and not directly from the city's coffers. Of Austion's settlement, $450,000 was owed to him regardless, due to a previous ruling in favor of Austion by a federal jury and associated attorney fees. Austion's and Blakely's resignations, effective immediately, were stipulations requested by the city. [LEAF CHRONICLE: POLICE DETECTIVES]
