LAX Janitors' Harassment
Los Angeles, CA: (Oct-09-07) The US Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) brought a lawsuit against World Service West, a janitorial company, alleging that a male company supervisor sexually harassed three female janitors at Los Angeles International Airport. The EEOC suit claimed that the World Service West supervisor made a series of crude sexual remarks to female employees. The supervisor's comments included sexual propositions, vulgar comments describing his genitalia, offers of money for sex, and engaging in unwanted sexual touching at the company's worksite at LAX. When the employees filed complaints, the company sought to cover up the misdemeanor.
As part of a settlement reached, the company agreed to pay $150,000 to settle the lawsuit. Additionally, World Service West also agreed to a three-year consent degree, which requires it to conduct Equal Employment Opportunity training, hire a consultant on the matter and to review the commission's policies and procedures.
