Police Chief Gender Harassment

Milwaukee, WI: (Oct-24-07) Leslie Berryman brought a lawsuit against former Ypsilanti Police Chief Leonard Supenski, alleging that she was sexually harassed by him. As part of a settlement reached, sources say that Berryman was paid $32,293 to drop the lawsuit. Under the deal, she also agreed not to file suit against the city or the chief for a laundry list of issues including sexual discrimination and sexual harassment. The agreement was signed by the city, Berryman and Supenski. Speculations were rife that the two denied having an affair, though they considered having one, but the constant talk about the two within the department apparently was a contributing factor in their separate decisions to leave the agency. Following the lawsuit, Supenski has survived the city's scrutiny, emerging as one of five finalists to head the Milwaukee Police Department. [JOURNAL SENTINEL: GENDER BIAS]
