Free Ringtones
Tallahassee, FL: (Nov-07-07) The Florida Attorney General's office brought charges against Azoogle, a New York company that manages Internet marketing of cell phone products, alleging that it had improper marketing practices. The Florida Attorney General's new cyber fraud task force claimed that though free cell phone ringtones can be found all over the Internet, most of those are not free as they are advertised. Task force officials stated that cell phone users who responded to Azoogle's free ringtone offers, had been enrolled into subscription plans without their knowledge. Those users were often children or teenagers and plan fees were added to their cell phone bills. The suit stated that Azoogle thus mislead customers.
As part of a settlement reached, the AG's office announced that it has received a $1 million payout from Azoogle. Sources claim that the settlement is the first reached by the cyber fraud unit with a company accused of misleading consumers on the Internet. [WMBB NEWS: RINGTONE FRAUD]
