Bankruptcy Discrimination
This is a settlement for the Bankruptcy lawsuit.
Hanceville, AL: (Nov-12-07) Former Hanceville Police Chief Ed Potter brought a lawsuit against the city, Mayor Katie Whitley, and council members Wayne Armstrong, Hubert Jones, Selma Barnett, and Larry Cornett in 2005, alleging that he was wrongfully fired from his post with the city. He also claimed that city council members discriminated against him. Records show that Potter claimed in 2004, that he was dismissed because he had filed for bankruptcy.
As part of a settlement reached, Judge Lynwood Smith, Jr. dismissed all council members and the mayor from the lawsuit, but did find the city responsible for discrimination. Under the mediated deal, the city agreed to pay Ed Potter $125,000 to resolve allegations. [CULLMAN TIMES: POLICE CHIEF FIRED]
