Corrections Discrimination
Niagara County, NY: (Nov-13-07) Officer Derrick Brevard, a former Niagara County Sheriff's Department employee, brought a lawsuit against the county, alleging that he was wrongfully terminated from his job in 2005. Records how that Brevard filed a grievance against the county following his termination from his corrections job with the Sheriff's Department, back in December of 2005. Sources confirmed that Brevard also received a notice from the US Equal Employment Opportunity Commission that would have given him the right to pursue legal action against the county based on issues involving racial discrimination.
As part of a settlement reached, members of the Niagara County Legislature's Administrative Committee agreed to pay Brevard a total of $86,042, an amount that includes back wages for nearly two years. In exchange, Brevard would waive his rights to all legal claims, including those involving the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. [LOCKPORT UNION SUN: OFFICER BIAS]
