Salary Structure

Peoria, IL: (Nov-26-07) A trio of appellate judges in Ottawa alleged that the City Hall didn't follow through on a nearly decade-old settlement with several dozen women over unequal pay. Sources stated that the outcome of the ruling could set the city back several million. Court documents showed that the 3rd District Appellate Court, in its eight-page order, found the city of Peoria breached the terms of a 1997 settlement with nearly 50 women. At issue was the reclassification of the city's salary structure, which was reconfigured after that settlement. The women accused the city of not giving them raises they were entitled to nor did they maintain their levels of seniority. The city, however, contends the women as well as every other employee did quite well under the reclassification. Legal counsel stated that the city could pay out some $2 million plus legal fees. Another attorney, who was part of the original settlement, believes that number could reach $3 million. [PJ STAR: SETTLEMENT BREACH]
