Police Discrimination
This is a settlement for the Discrimination lawsuit.
Milwaukee, WI: (Dec-03-07) Officer Ayman Khatib, the city's first Arab-American police officer, brought charges against the city, claiming that he was racially discriminated against. The suit alleged that when Khatib was applying for duty disability in 2005, city officials claimed he had made a statement about shooting up his police station. Khatib was arrested, but the district attorney's office found he had made no threats and prosecutors did not bring charges. Khatib then filed a federal lawsuit, saying he had been subject to ethnic slurs and denied promotions. Khatib stated that he was still on duty disability, which he has claimed is a result of stress caused by harassment. As part of a settlement, the city council recommended that Khatib be paid $15,000 to resolve the discrimination lawsuit.
