Mt. Lebanon, PA: (Dec-19-07) Matthew Kluck, the township's top golf pro, brought a lawsuit against the township, alleging that he was discriminated against on the basis of his age. He claimed that officials began trying to get him to quit in 2001. Kluck alleged that his bosses treated younger employees favorably while they alienated him, altered his pay structure several times and increased his responsibilities without compensation. Records show that Kluck filed a federal age discrimination lawsuit in 2006 and reached a settlement later the same year.
As part of the settlement agreement, Kluck, an instructor certified by the Professional Golfers' Association of America, will resign his position with the township and will have to pay to use the golf course in future. Additionally, Mt. Lebanon's insurer will pay Kluck $25,000, and ensure that he would continue teaching at the municipal course. Kluck is a full-time municipal employee, who earned about $63,000 in 2006, Feller said. As part of the settlement, he agreed to let Mt. Lebanon keep a portion of his lesson fees he had paid to the municipality under protest. [PITTSBURGH LIVE: GOLF PRO BIAS]
