LAWSUITS NEWS & LEGAL INFORMATION
Newspaper Publisher
Minneapolis, MN: (Feb-19-08) St. Paul Pioneer Press brought charges against the Star Tribune alleging that Star Tribune publisher Par Ridder, once the Pioneer Press publisher, took a laptop with confidential information from that paper when he jumped to the Star Tribune. Records show that in September 2007, a judge ordered Riddler out of his job for one year, stating that Ridder violated Minnesota's trade secrets act.
Later in December of 2007, a settlement was reached in which the court ordered a settlement, which awarded attorney fees to the St. Paul paper and mandated that Ridder could not return to work at the Star Tribune or its parent company Avista Capital Partners until Sept. 18, 08. The Star Tribune reported that Ridder resigned, and in return, the Pioneer Press agreed to drop a lawsuit against Ridder and the Minneapolis-based paper. In a recent development, company officials stated that the Star Tribune has paid $3.8 million in legal fees on behalf of the St. Paul Pioneer Press and its parent company MediaNews Group Inc., resolving the dispute.
