Probation Paperwork
Tippecanoe, IN: (Feb-26-08) Barbara Baugh, a former teacher, brought a lawsuit against the Tippecanoe School Corporation, alleging that she was wrongfully terminated in the Spring of 2006. The suit claimed that the school board fired Baugh in April 2006, stating that Baugh failed several evaluations and was placed on probation and failed to meet the minimum standards for her position as a teacher. The school also claimed that Baugh failed to treat all students as valuable and after several warnings, did not improve professionally. Baugh allegedly failed to follow a written bus transfer request, and a first grade student was dropped off at an empty home. She was accused of being unprofessional and rude in a conference with parents in the presence of her principal.
In a recent development in the case, a court appointed Arbitrator sided with Baugh, stating that Tippecanoe School Corporation had failed to do proper paperwork regarding Baugh's probations and evaluation documents. As part of a settlement reached, Tippecanoe School Corporation was ordered to pay Baugh $35,000 to resolve the wrongful termination lawsuit. School officials said that the settlement will successfully avoid the costs and risks associated with protracted litigation. [NEWS CHANNEL 18: FIRED TEACHER]
