Worker's Compensation
This is a settlement for the Workers Compensation lawsuit.
Lockport, NY: (Mar-19-08) Niagara County brought a lawsuit against the City of Lockport in 2007, alleging that the city owed money over old workers' compensation claims and insurance premiums. The suit stemmed from money owed to the county, after the city of Lockport pulled out of a county-run insurance pool in 2001.
In a recent development in the year-long case, officials on both sides said that a settlement agreement has been reached. Under the terms of the settlement, the Niagara County Legislature voted to accept $278,220 from the City of Lockport, resolving the dispute. The Lockport Common Council is expected to ratify the settlement on Mar. 19, 2008. Court documents reveal that suits are still pending against the towns of Wheatfield, Niagara and Royalton.
