Convicted Caretakers
Monterey County, CA: (May-01-08) The Monterey County District Attorney's office brought a lawsuit against Central Coast Senior Services of Pacific Grove, alleging falsely advertised its services. The suit stated that between 2002 and 2006, the company falsely claimed that it screened the backgrounds of all of its employees for prior criminal records; and that its home care workers were on par with certified nursing assistants or home health aides. The suit, which was a result of the District Attorney's investigation in April 2006, stated that company employees faced two criminal prosecutions for stealing from elderly clients.
As part of a settlement reached in the case, Central Coast Senior Services of Pacific Grove has agreed to pay $175,000 to resolve allegations. While not admitting any wrongdoing, the company will pay $125,000 in penalties and $50,000 to a local nonprofit legal organization specializing in elder financial abuse law. Additionally, under the terms of the deal, the company has agreed to an injunction banning it from untrue or misleading advertising.
