Wrongful Termination
Victorville, CA: (May-19-08) Nicholas Halisky, a former president of the Victor Valley College, brought a wrongful termination lawsuit against the college, after Halisky, his wife and former director of management information systems Cathy Halisky, and former director of human resources Lois Kobz, were all fired in 2002. The termination was said to be the result of mishandling an on-campus drug investigation in 1999. In response to the suit, the school District filed a separate action against Halisky alleging misrepresentation and fraud.
Sources stated that in a recent development in the case, Victor Valley College agreed to pay $500,000 to Halisky, resolving the wrongful termination allegations. Under the terms of settlement, the district's suit was dropped. Halisky will receive $250,000 and his attorneys will receive $250,000, according to the settlement. Records show that Cathy Halisky received a $330,000 settlement for wrongful termination in 2005, and was reinstated but is no longer with the college. [DAILY PRESS: VVC SETTLES SUIT]
