$185 Million Award Against Wal-Mart Upheld by Philadelphia Judge
This is a settlement for the Employment lawsuit.
Wal-Mart could pay $185 million to settle a class action suit alleging that the retailer underpayed its employees. A Philadelphia judge affirmed the award, during an appeal pending in the Pennsylvania Superior Court. The judge also said that Wal-Mart should pay $62.2 million in statutory liquidated damages, $33.8 million in statutory attorney fees, $11.9 million in nonstatutory attorney fees and $10.2 million in prejudgment interest. The total judgment against Wal-Mart currently totals $187,648,589.11.
An earlier jury found Wal-Mart had not properly compensated 186,000 employees for off-the-clock work and missed breaks between March 19 1998 an May 1 2006.
