Mohawk Industries Settles Employee Class Action for $18 Million
This is a settlement for the Employment lawsuit.
Fulton County, GA: Mohawk Industries and its employees who filed a class action lawsuit against the carpet manufacturer have finally reached a settlement worth a reported $18 million. The lawsuit has been in the courts for the past six years. The 'prime motivator' in the settlement is the fact that Mohawk's insurer, Zurich American Insurance, has agreed to pay $13 million of the settlement amount.
The lawsuit stemmed from allegations that the carpet manufacturer had depressed wages from 1999 to the present, by hiring undocumented workers.
Additional terms of the settlement include Mohawk, which did not admit any wrongdoing, agreeing to undertake training about verifying employment eligibility and to operate an anonymous tip line for reporting violations of employment eligibility verification.
