$1.5M Settlement Reached in Family Dollar Unpaid Wages & Overtime Class Action Lawsuit
This is a settlement for the Employment lawsuit.
New York, NY: A potential $1.5 million settlement has been reached in the Family Dollar Stores unpaid overtime class action lawsuit brought by current and former store managers who alleged the retailer failed to pay them overtime wages.
The settlement has received preliminary approval, and if approved, will resolve the claims of about 517 store managers. The lawsuit was brought in 2011, alleging Family Dollar misclassified the store managers as being exempt from overtime pay.
The settlement terms require that class counsel request no more than $345,000 in attorneys' fees and about $10,000 in costs, while setting aside a $7,500 reward for the class representative. A formal settlement hearing is scheduled for July 7, 2014. The case is Hegab et al. v. Family Dollar Stores Inc., case number 2:11-cv-01206, in the U.S. District Court for the District of New Jersey.

Asm and 3years as store manager. I no longer work for
them. The last time I worked for FD, I was pregnant,
And still putting in 52 and more hrs of work. My assistant
Manager passed away that year. I let my district manager know that my assistant manager was gonna take leave for two weeks
And not once did he mention to send me an xtra hand or another assistant or never bother to ask me if I needed help
, he was basically was having me do work for 2 -3 people and yet I was getting written up. He spilled all his coffe on my safe and just left it there dripping.
I worked all the way up in my pregnancy. He did not give me extra hrs, my sales were very good. On my last day , he gave me
a final warning, instead of wishing me a nice maternity leave”, I
Called Corp, because he would just pop in the store and
Start picking on the silliest things, and they told me “District
Managers are not supposed to feel emphaty for their store managers”. And even after All the complaints I made , the company still picked his side. This guy was a true jerk!after, the birth of my baby I decided to quit , because I didn’t know what he would do next, I was very uncomfortable. eventually I fell into a deep depression for not returning to my FD job, and because how I was treated. My blood pressure eventually started affecting me , all this health issues started to develop, and I’m now currently on medication for anxiety, stress, depression, and high blood pressure. Before I left this job, I didn’t take meds, I was very healthy. I believe this job affected me.
